The Kayhi Kings volleyball team lost the first two of their games last week at the double elimination State tournament in Anchorage. The Kayhi Kings played South Anchorage on Thursday morning, and lost, 25-13, 25-16, 25-16. They then played West Valley in the loser’s bracket on Friday morning, and lost, 26-24, 25-23, 25-10.
“We had already played South at a tournament, but this [State] match was probably the closest game we’ve ever had with them,” said senior Whitney Hamilton. “I think that we already doubted ourselves before we played, because they’re the reigning champions. If we had thought better we probably could have won.”
Senior Kaia Michalsen was named as Kayhi’s player of the match. Michalsen also led in the stats for both serves (6/6), kills (11), and digs (17). Senior Gabby Clark led in blocks with 7, and junior Kreylynn Johnson led number of assists with 7. The top passers of the match were Michalsen, Havalah Clark, and Sherrine Bautista.
In the match against West Valley on Friday, Kayhi’s player of the match was Gabby Clark, who had the most aces (3) and blocks (5). Havalah Clark and Michalsen led in kills, both with 7.
