This weekend, the Kayhi Debate, Drama, and Forensics team will host its first and only home meet for this year. The meet starts Friday after school at 3:30 and ends Saturday night with final debates and command performances. The team has participated in two other meets this year in Sitka and Haines. In Haines, Kayhi DDF had four first place finishes, Luke Dosset in Expository Speaking, Cheyenne Mathews in Original Oratory and Speaker Points, and Audrey Kistler in Extemporaneous Speaking. In Sitka, there were three first place finishes: Bella Posey and David Willson in Public Forum Debate, Audrey Kistler in Extemporaneous Speaking, and the team of Piper Cooper and Kistler in Spar Debate. Senior Cheyenne Mathews, who has participated in debate for three years, is excited for her last home meet.
“I’ve been in the final debate both of my years at the home meet, so my senior year I would like to continue that trend and be in the final debate. Sophomore year it was an exibition debate, and last year Audrey and I won the meet, so there’s a lot of pressure to win again this year.”
