It’s going to be in the 70s this weekend. Here’s the plan:
1. Jet Ski If you know someone who has one. Make it happen. Picture this: wind in your hair, salt water in your mouth, cruising off into the sunset.
2.Hike Dude Mountain No mountain gets you to a cooler height with the least amount of work. Do it. Driving most of the way up is most of the fun. How can we get a view like that from inside a car? It’s like a nature roller coaster.
3. Spend a day at Settlers beach with no service The break from being on the grid is always refreshing. Ketchikan isn’t a big ‘white sand beach’ type place but we are a crab finding, jellyfish scoping beach hunts type place. Enjoy your time out in nature without the constant instagram notifications.
4. Do nothing, but do it in the sun Lay out and relax after a long day. The best parts of a sunny day is always the Alaskan sunsets. Thousands of people visiting Ketchikan on cruise ships would love their nothing to look like this. Their nothing is sitting in a cramped city apartment they pay $3,000 a month for. We live here. Enjoy it.
5. Go kayaking AND whale watching at the same time Whales have been active lately and living here all my life it never ceases to amaze me what can emerge from the same waters we pass by every day. Again, think about the tourists who are paying hundreds of dollars to see what we can see almost everyday. How often do you really look up and say, “Wow, an eagle?” Exactly. This weekend, remember where you live.
