Kayhi’s Wrestling team is at Colony High School this weekend for the Colony Wrestling Invitational. Kayhi took the top 16 varsity wrestlers. These wrestlers will start their matches at 5:45 on Friday, after the mix and match JV round robin.
Six swim and dive team members are heading to state this weekend. Senior Kegan Rhein won the region title for the boys in diving, junior Jessilyn Sivertsen won the girls diving. There are the only two divers from southeast heading to state. On the boys side, senior Logan Hammersland qualified in the 100 yard butterfly and the 100 yard backstroke, and sophomore Maury Meiresonne qualified for the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. For the girls, freshman Emma Campbell is the first alternate for the Girls 200 yard freestyle, and freshman Laura Sherrill qualified for 100 yard breaststroke and the 100 yard butterfly.
The Lady Kings volleyball team will be playing in Region V Championships this weekend. The first game they play will be at 4 p.m. against Thunder Mountain. The winner will play Juneau-Douglas tonight at 8 p.m. The loser of Kayhi Thunder Mountain will play the loser on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Senior Sherrine Bautista said she is looking to forward to play this weekend’s games and hopes to continue practicing next week. “I’m excited to play this final week of high school volleyball with my best friends and hope to be the team that gets to keep practicing next week.”
The Lady Kings took last year’s region title. This year, Kayhi is ranked last in the region, but have defeated both JDHS and TMHS at least once.
