The Lady Kings placed 3rd in Region V Tournament last weekend. On Friday, Kayhi lost to Thunder Mountain 3-2 in the first round and was placed in the loser’s bracket. Saturday Thunder Mountain beat Kayhi again 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 15-10. Later Juneau-Douglas defeated Kayhi 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, which eliminated Kayhi from championship contention. Havalah Clark and Kreylynn Johnson were named to the 4A Southeast All-Conference team.
The Kayhi Wrestling team took 3rd in the Colony Invitational finishing behind South Anchorage High School and Colony High School. Sophomore Matthew Rodriguez (106 lbs.) was the only wrestler to win his weight class at this tournament.
Freshman Laura Sherrill was the only Kayhi Swim and Dive member to place at the state tournament. Laura placed 7th in the 100 Yard Butterfly event with a time of 1:01.46.
Both divers were eliminated in the 1 Meter Diving semi-finals. Senior Kegan Rhein was 10.11 points from qualifying for finals and placed 9th in the semi-finals, while Sophomore Jessilynn Sivertsen was only 6 points away from qualifying for the finals and placed 10th in the semi-finals.
Kayhi Lady Kings placed 20th out of 21 schools attending the meet, while the Kings did not place.
