The Kayhi Kings (10-3, 1-0) hosts the Juneau Douglas Crimson Bears (7-3) this weekend. Varsity starts at 7:45 p.m. today and Saturday. The Kings are coming off a successful weekend at the South Anchorage O’Brady’s Tournament, where they won the championship for the second straight year.
Senior Jake Smith believes the team is ready for the defending State Champions.
“It is rivalry weekend and everyone is excited to finally play our longtime rivals,” said Smith. “We are going to ride any wave given to us to get a win.”
The Kings lead the 4A Southeast Conference while the Crimson Bears are in second. This is Kayhi’s first matchup with JD this season. Kayhi lost to JDHS at the buzzer in the state semi’s last season, 42-40. JDHS went on to win the state title.
