Kayhi went 2-2 at the Lady Lynx Prep Shootout at Dimond High School over the weekend. The Lady King’s took 6th place after losing to Juneau for the third time this year, 41-40. In the girls’ first game, Kayhi senior AJ Dela Cruz hit a buzzer beating three to put the Lady Kings over Soldotna.
“Well I knew that whoever caught the ball was going to have to shoot it, but coach did draw up a play for me to get it,” said Dela Cruz. “I was a little surprised that I was as open as I was when I caught the ball. I had Payton’s monster screen and Ashley’s great pass to thank for that.”
The girls took a loss against No. 2 in state Dimond Lady Lynx 70-34. The Lady Kings then beat Lathrop Lady Malamutes, after losing twice at home. The Lady Kings will play their final home games this weekend against Juneau Douglas. They will honor the 4 seniors on Saturday night.
