The Kayhi Lady Kings volleyball team will be competing in the annual Spiketacular Tournament hosted by West Anchorage and the Romig Middle School. Kayhi’s first game is against the Juneau-Douglas Lady Bears at 4:30 this Friday.
Junior Alanna Berry is looking forward to this weekend’s games.
“I’m a little nervous because there are definitely teams we haven’t seen before,” said Berry. “Knowing that we play JD first is exciting because we haven’t played them yet, and they’re our biggest team rival. Last weekend’s games made us want to work harder so we can beat those teams that beat us last year and have the confidence to keep us going.”
Head coach Beth Sandefur is feeling good about traveling with the team and is excited for this upcoming tournament.
“I’m really excited about Spiketacular. I think it’s fun to travel and we’ll see how it goes with back-to-back games,” said Sandefur. “We’re playing JD first, which will be really good for us because we haven’t seen how they play yet. We’ve been playing schools that we normally wouldn’t play and having a lot of hard practices, so I think this weekend will be a good experience for everyone.”
These single elimination matches will be best 2 of 3 sets format, 25 points in the first two sets, 15 points in the deciding game, two point margin of victory with no cap and no time limits.
