The Kayhi wrestling team will be participating in the Colony Invitational tournament this weekend. They will dual with South Anchorage which is currently ranked No. 2 in state, and then Colony who is ranked No. 1 on Friday. The tournament starts Saturday and will have 9 teams at the tournament. The Kings will only be filling nine out of the 15 weight classes with the 11 wrestlers they are bringing on the trip. They will automatically have to forfeit the other six weight classes.
Coach Rick Collins is eager to see how the team does in their first matchups against bigger schools.
“We will have a very difficult time winning the duals due to all of the forfeits we will be giving up, but our goal is to give our wrestlers that are going some good matches and they will get those,” said Collins. “I think we matchup well against them with the kids that we’re bringing so we should do great.”
Collins was hoping to bring more wrestlers on the trip, but due to injuries and the SAT they were unable to take more.
Juniors Brayden Linne and Patrick Rauwolf are both undefeated so far this season in Southeast, and said they are excited but also nervous to wrestle with more competition up North.
“It’s going to be fun facing better competition,” said Rauwolf. “But it’s going to be a lot harder.”
