The Kayhi volleyball team placed third in the Region V tournament at home this weekend. On Friday night, the Lady Kings fell to the Bears (25-8, 25-12, 25-7). Hoping to stay alive, the Lady Kings faced the Falcons Saturday morning, but were eliminated from the tournament (25-3, 25-9, 25-9). Senior Lezille Sagrado said despite ending the season with a loss, she is proud of how far the team has come.
“Although our season didn’t go as planned, I’m proud of how much we improved as a team with all the challenges we had to face– as this year was a rebuilding year,” said Sagrado.
In the championship match, the Bears secured their 2nd consecutive region title, defeating the Falcons in a five set rally (25-17, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19, 25-8) — earning their ticket to the State Tournament in Anchorage.
As the Lady Kings’ season comes to a close, Sagrado said she enjoyed playing with her team for the last time.
“I definitely enjoyed being with this team whether we won or lost,” said Sagrado. “Sure we didn’t win regions, but I wouldn’t want to have played with any other team.”
