The Kayhi Lady Kings (12-6) beat the West Valley Wolfpack (10-5) for the second time this year Saturday to finish 2-2 in the Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout.
Ketchikan began the tournament Wednesday by beating West Anchorage (9-4) 49-36. They lost to Colony (14-3) 49-42 on Thursday, and Barrow 46-42 on Friday. The Lady Kings finished the tournament with an exciting 53-52 win over West Valley.
Kayhi was ahead over West Valley 18-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Wolfpack  responded and led the Lady Kings by seven in the third quarter. With less than 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter Sophomore Lianne Guevarra forced a Wolfpack turnover and Junior Ashley Huffine capitalized off of it by hitting a game-tying three. Sophomore Madison Rose forced another turnover with eight seconds left which led to the game-winning free throw by Senior Brittany Slick.
Senior Captain Hannah Maxwell said they were happy to finish the tournament with a win.
“After coming up short in two close games it felt good to get the win,” said Maxwell. “Our bench made some huge plays that set up the winning free throw. It’s always nice to end the week on a positive note especially when we are heading to JD next week.”
