Kayhi Track and Field will be heading to the Sitka Invitational this weekend to compete against Sitka, Juneau Douglas, Thunder Mountain, and Skagway.
While Sitka is known for having a beautiful baseball field– track is a different story. Sitka has a gravel track instead of the nice rubberized surface like the runners are used to. Sophomore Ashley Cyr has conflicted feelings about the track.
“I’m nervous about the gravel track affecting my speed” Cyr said. “But it will be a good break for my shins”
Sitka also doesn’t have the 100 and 110 meter hurdles, so most hurdlers will be trying out relays or races at this meet. The meet starts at 2:45 pm at Moller Field and Track on Friday. Cyr is looking forward to attending the meet with her fellow underclassmen.
“I’m excited to hangout with my team” Ashley Cyr said. “I can’t wait to race and improve my mile time.”
Kayhi upperclassmen attending prom will not be traveling to Sitka.
