The Kings (11-1) travel to the Region V tournament in Sitka today. Kayhi has a first-round bye then will play the winner of Sitka and Petersburg Thursday at 6 p.m.
Head coach Andy Berntson said the Kings aren’t over looking regions.
“We know that despite the records, all of the teams are very equally balanced when at full strength, so the regular season doesn’t mean anything once the tournament starts,” said Berntson. “The regular season champion is not the regional champion, and that is our goal every year. Also, the regional champion earns our conference’s NO.1 seed in the state tournament, which can be very beneficial as well.”
Berntson emphasized that the key factor to this weekend is consistency.
“We need to focus on consistent play and execution, including throwing strikes and making the routine plays to stay out of big innings,” said Berntson. “Offensively, we need to take better advantage of our scoring opportunities and have more productive at bats.”
