Swim team places 5th in Petersburg meet.

Kayhi Swim and Dive team had their first meet of their season on August 31 and Sept. 1 at Petersburg High School. Craig, Juneau Douglas, Thunder Mountain, and Sitka attended the 2 day meet, along with Petersburg and Kayhi. Kayhi placed 5th on Friday with 647.5 points, and 4th on Saturday with 598 points. Juneau Douglas placed 1st on Friday with a score of 889, and placed 1st on Saturday with a score of 890.

Junior diver and captain Caity Pearson is proud of her team and is especially excited about how she performed at the meet.

“I beat my highest score by 27 points and got 1st both days,” said Pearson. “The whole team was super supportive and we were the loudest team there.”

Many swimmers improved their times at the meet, but Coach Megan Beattie is ready to train more for the teams’ next meet at Sitka High School.

“Overall, it was a great meet and the kids did well,” said Beattie. “It was a learning experience for the newer athletes, and we definitely have things to work on before the next meet in Sitka in two weeks.”
