Three members on the swim and dive team qualified for state at the Region V meet in Petersburg on Oct. 26 and 27. Jessilynn Sivertsen placed in 3rd in the one meter dive with 285.62 points, Emma Campbell placed 4th in the 200 freestyle, 2:06.06, and Laura Sherrill placed 2nd in the 200 IM, 2:17.65, and the 100 fly, 1:01.57. They will travel to the State meet in Anchorage next week.
Sitka placed first for the girls and Juneau Douglas boys took 1st. Kayhi girls and boys both took 5th in the meet.
The official results for who qualified for state were posted on Monday, Campbell said that that was a big relief for her.
“I was worried for a bit because it took so long for the results to be posted,” said Campbell. “But as soon as I found out I made it I was so happy that all of my hard work paid off.”
Each of the three girls will be going to state for their third time. Junior Ella Sherrill said that the experience at state gave her confidence going in to regions.
“I knew I could place because I qualified the other years,” said Sherrill. “But it’s nice to have the official results and you start mentally preparing to see more competition. It’s going to be fun, I’m excited.”
