Boys Basketball:

Kings (6-1)
Streak: W4
Key Win vs. Wasilla (55-48)
Last 10 match-ups JDHS: 3-7
Last 10 match-ups TMHS: 6-4

The Kings lost zero players from their starting lineup last year increasing their odds of winning a region title. Marcus Lee is #4 in scoring all time at Kayhi. The Kings play a high tempo game and shoot lots of 3’s. For the last two years Kayhi has lost to JD in the region championship game and is just 3-7 in their last 10 games, but has outscored JD 560-534 over that span.

TMHS (4-2)
Streak: L1
Last 5: 3-2
Key win vs. West Valley (59-50)
Player to Watch: Bryson Echiverri

Thunder Mountain lost a few key players including Josh McAndrews, Roy Tupou,  Owen Mendoza, and Luke Clark. Clark was their leading scorer. Thunder Mountain run’s a very up-tempo offense, so Kayhi’s keys will be to box out and stop Echiverri, a fast 5’11” point guard that is very physical and always on the move.

JDHS (4-3)
Streak: W4
Last 5:4-1
Key Win vs. Barrow (68-63)
Player to watch: Cooper Kreigmont

Juneau-Douglas has zero returning starters so making it three in a row will be difficult. Juneau lost their key player Eric Kelly, who averaged 20 points and 19 rebounds a game. Kreigmont, a returning sophomore for Juneau, is JDHS biggest threat at the small forward position.

Girls Basketball:

Thunder Mountain (5-3)
Streak: L2
Last 5: 2-3
Key win vs. Mt. Edgecumbe (57-41)
Player to watch: Nina Fenumiai

Thunder Mountain has five total wins early in the season with four wins against 3A opponents and one 4A win against North Pole. They have lost to two 4A teams and a 2A team. The Lady Kings have already faced the Falcons this year and won 43-33. Kayhi has beat TMHS 17 consecutive times dating back to 2015.

Juneau Douglas (4-1)
Streak: L1
Last 5: 4-1
Key win vs. Sitka (52-25)
Player to watch: Caitlin Pusich

The Lady Bears won their first four contests by an average of 23 points. They have two wins against 4A opponents and two more against 3A. Their lone loss was against East Anchorage (55-57), who was last seasons third place finisher in the state tournament.

Kayhi (2-4)
Streak: W1
Last 5: 2-3
Key win vs. Thunder Mountain (43-33)
Last 10 against Thunder Mountain: 10-0
Last 10 against Juneau Douglas: 7-3

The Lady Kings have won five consecutive Region V titles. The Lady Kings went 8-2 last season against region opponents, and went undefeated at home. Kayhi has won a game against a 4A team and another against a 2A team. All four of their losses have been against 4A opponents.
