Kayhi’s National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) team will be heading to the national competition in Washington D.C. tomorrow.
The Saber-Toothed Salmon took 1st out of 20 teams at the Alaska state final quiz and qualified for nationals.
Kayhi’s NOSB team is excited to go against 23 other schools from the United States.
“We’ve been practicing as much as we can,” said junior co-captain Laura Sherrill. “Our team has been given brand new buzzers and a set of questions to study getting us ready for the meet.”
Sherrill said the only difference between the state and national meets is that the Saber-Toothed Salmon will be tested against teams from different states.
This will be the first time ever that Kayhi’s NOSB team will be going against teams from out of state.
Head coach Julie Landwehr is confident going into the state competition.
“All state competitions had the same sets of questions to qualify for nationals so we will going against teams who know just as much as we do.”
The national competition will be held from April 11 to 13.
