The Kings will face Chugiak tonight at 6:15 p.m. in the first round of the state tournament. They get to continue their season after losing the Region V Championship, due to Covid-19 Juneau Douglas is not allowed to travel to a high risk town so the Kings took their spot as runner-ups. 

The Kings get a chance to redeem themselves and try to win a state championship. With the state tournament it’s 3 days of games, if you lose one you have no shot at getting first. 

Senior Captain Tyler Slick said he’s grateful to be able to play again and that the team feels good about tonight’s game.   

“We need to execute our rebounding and spacing to take the game over and pull off the win we want,” said slick. 

Chuguiak is coming off a 67-47 loss to East in the Cook inlet conference championship game. Junior Damarion Delaney led East with 31 points. Chuguik went 10-4 overall but 9-3 in their conference. 

Slick said they aren’t going to waste their second chance, we want to end the season on a good note. 

“I’m just excited to give it all we got and not waste our second chance,” said Slick.

The Lady Kings (16-1) face off against the East Anchorage Lady Thunderbirds (3-4) in the first round of the 2021 State Tournament.

The Lady Kings won the Region Title and are ready to showcase there skills to get it done in the state tournament.

Junior Gabby Mas said she is ready to play and is happy that her team gets the opportunity to show what they can do in a state game.

“Going into the state tournament this year is very exciting and nerve racking in many ways,” said Mas. “All our hard work has payed off for this tournament during this covid time”.
